Nisa-Today's is planning to extend its packaging waste recovery scheme to all 765 of its Nisa retail members.
The independent retailer and wholesaler organisation currently collects plastic and cardboard packaging from 155 of its stores located around the M25 corridor as it is served by its Harlow depot, the branch responsible for the recycling.
Next month, the scheme will be introduced to stores served by the Stoke depot. In the future the firm would like to offer it to all members.
Branches of Costcutter, Tuffins and Mills are just some of the 765 retail members of Nisa, which in total operate more than 5,000 stores.
Jonathan Stowe, Nisa distribution director, said the feedback from stores currently in the scheme had been brilliant and that a future nationwide roll-out is planned: "It is our intention to eventually offer this service to all Nisa members, which will significantly benefit both members and the environment."
In the three-week period of the initial scheme, Nisa claimed that 1,736 cages of waste had been collected from the 155 stores involved.
Vim Odedra, owner of a Middlesex-based Nisa Local said: "It is clear that customers really appreciate stores that are kind to the environment and they were pleased to hear we were participating in the initiative." |
